Seven hundred miles.
Six discs in the changer (because we rock it old school in the Pilot!) making the soundtrack for the trip: Coldplay (to get excited for Mylo Xyloto, due out in ONE MONTH!), She & Him (because they're making a Christmas album this year, and while it's too early for Christmas music, She & Him are never out of season!), Great Lake Swimmers (because every Great Canadian Roadtrip deserves a little great Canadian music!), the Glee Soundtrack (for pumpin' us all up), Mumford & Sons (because they never come out of our player!) and Slugs & Bugs & Lullabies (for Iain).
Five pacifiers in the console to pass to Liam as required. Five bags of goodies on the front seat for easy access: big toys, little toys, snacks, drinks, books. What else do you really need?
Four different states. Four wheels spinning, taking us North.
Three Pitman passengers. Three hour increments to make it mentally manageable. (Dubuque to Chicago. Chicago to Kalamazoo. K-Zoo to the border. The border to Grammie and Grampy's house!)
Two a.m. wakeup-call. Two different countries. Two pit stops only! Two little boys who were champion travelers!
One tired Mama. One relieved Daddy. One successful road trip!
We're here. First solo roadtrip with two boys...check. It really couldn't have gone better! But I'm glad it's over, and we're looking forward to a fun week in the homeland.
